Thank you for your interest in becoming a Pet Chaplain Associate. This program involves pastoral immersion in the provision of veterinary pastoral care at community animal shelters, veterinary hospitals and clinics. The student will serve on-call at local veterinary clinics/shelters and attend weekly on-line veterinary pastoral care workshops and presentations on topics including:
  • Veterinary pastoral care
  • Veterinary pastoral verbatim
  • Theological integration/inclusive liturgy
  • Interpersonal relationship building.
Acceptance into the Associate Pet Chaplain program requires the following:
  • Association for Veterinary Pastoral Education (AVPE) membership
  • Successful completion of the Introduction to Community Pet Chaplaincy training program
  • Sponsorship of a veterinarian or veterinary practice.
The chaplain will intern with veterinarian sponsors, and serve the pastoral care needs of sponsors' veterinary practice during the training session.
